Thailand is one of the best known travel destinations around the world. The number of annual foreign tourists visiting Thailand in 2019 was almost 39 million, but COVID-19 pulled that figure down to less than 7 million in 2020 and less than a half million in 2021. This number slowly rebounded after the epidemic abated in 2022, and was at about 33 million in 2025.

Without doubt, Thailand’s best known destinations are our beautiful seaside resorts of Phuket, Samui and Pattaya, and the mountain retreats in Chiangmai and Chiangrai. Our royal palaces and well-known temples must not be missed. Furthermore, the wide variety of regional Thai food is delicious and inexpensive.

However, almost all tourists (and perhaps even most foreign expatriates) enjoy these attractions without the full understanding of their origins or the contextual backgrounds whereby these attractions exist. Palaces and temples have beautiful structures and artefacts, but most people are not award of their true symbolism and purposes. The Thai cuisine is as varied and geographically diverse as any other ethnic cuisines — not just Pad Thai, Tom Yum Kung and Massaman curry that are popular among the non-Thais.

The purpose of this website is to provide our visitors with fun and factual cultural information so as to enhance the enjoyment of your travels across this truly amazing country (whether your visits are only for a few days or a long-stay residency) by heightening your cognitive awareness about Thailand, especially the Thai people and our cultural nuances. We also offer information specific to well-known and less-known travel destinations across the nation, many of which are not covered by other online sources.
